It goes without saying that the world we currently live in has changed so much, especially so when our loved ones are overseas and, in challenging times, what we took for granted is now impossible.
I was contacted recently by a lady in New York via the Celebrant Directory. Her Brother had sadly passed away. As executor and next of kin she had to manage this process from another country. Understandably in grief she wanted to directly connect with a Celebrant who lived locally to her Brother, who would connect via the internet alongside her UK family to plan a service that would truly represent their loved one.
We had a meeting on the Zoom platform and talked about Nigel. We created and crafted a perfect tribute alongside contributions from other family members in the UK.
The service flowed beautifully with sad moments, tears, smiles and some laughter as Nigel’s time with us was remembered.
The live Webcast facility was used, so despite the many restrictions we now live with, what a pleasure it was to know the many absent friends and family home and abroad could see the service live and feel like they were involved and also have the memories of Nigel’s life celebration.
What a privilege it was to work with such a lovely family and the connection we made, despite the challenges and the distance it just goes to show that we can make the best of things when times are at their most difficult and whatever the obstacles in our way.
